Kathy’s Camp for Kids took a much needed break following the unfortunate passing of Kathy Van Riper, the namesake and founder of Kathy’s Camp for Kids. The organization is also in the midst of an administrative restructure but is committed and dedicated to helping the children of cancer patients in Sonoma County. YES…we are still here and ARE planning on sponsoring more events soon. We anticipate our 2012 calendar will be starting in June 2012..near the start of the summer break for kids.
We want you to know that we are looking to add to our list of kids so please visit our “participate” page to add a name to our notification/contact list. If you sent us an inquiry we can immediately send the individual child a shirt, book and blanket made by Project Linus volunteers. We also are in need of continued assistance with getting the word out about what we do so we can reach more kids. Please contact me me at marc@kathyscamp.org if you are interested in helping out with this task.
Finally, the second annual Kathy’s Race will be held on April 14th 2012 at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa. This is a 5k fun run/walk in honor of Kathy Van Riper. All proceeds go to Kathy’s Camp for Kids and to local breast cancer charities. Please click HERE to register for this fun event.
Kathy’s Camp for Kids is sponsoring a free event for the children of cancer patients. Our events provide the kids with an opportunity to have fun and develop new friendships. The upcoming event will be held on Sunday December 5th, at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena in Santa Rosa. It will include a free ice skating session, skate rentals and light refreshments for the kids. We welcome the children of cancer patients who may be in the any phase of treatment, diagnosis or remission. Please sign up to participate in this event by visiting our calendar of events page, clicking on the date of the event and registering for the event.

Kathy’s Camp for Kids is pleased to offer new “welcome kits” to children who have parents or primary caregivers who are dealing with cancer. Please note that the parent or primary caregiver DOES NOT have to be in active treatment. Kathy’s Camp for Kids understands that a cancer diagnosis is a diagnosis that effects the family for life. We strive to provide ongoing support an encouragement to the children of cancer patients. We recognize that cancer has an impact on the family even after treatments have been completed or remission has been achieved.
